In 1972, on Valentine's Day, John Lennon and Yoko Ono began a week-long stint co-hosting "The Mike Douglas Show." The popular national television talk show introduced America to not only John and Yoko, but also Bobby Seale, Jerry Rubin adn Ralph Nader, It featured perfomrances by Lennon, Chuck Berry, Elephant's Memory and The Chamber Brothers. As Mike Douglas himself said: "It was probably the most memorable week I did in all my 20-something years on air."
We'll be posting excerpts from the show over the next few days. Here's the first one. If you can stomach the first few minutes of Douglas' "performance" of "Michelle," (coincidentally considered one of "Paul's songs)" it's worth watching. If Mike inevitably produces the gag reflex, forward to about the 3:45 mark to hear Douglas "groovy" introduction and his first chat with John and Yoko.
Part two of 2/14/72 has John and Yoko venturing into the studio audience with a canvas to create an evolving piece of collaborative art.
