"Leonard Cohen, 'Hallelujah,' and our 2021 Holiday Mashup"
Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah” has been covered by more than 300 other artists in virtually every genre, including Willie Nelson, k.d. lang, Justin Timberlake, Bono, Brandi Carlile, and Bon Jovi, to name a few. Hell...the song was even in “Shrek”! But the song was originally stuck on side two of 1984’s Various Positions, an album that Cohen’s record label deemed unfit for release. In fact, Walter Yetnikoff, the head honcho at CBS Records told Cohen “Leonard, we know you’re great but we don’t know if you’re any good.”
“Hallelujah” is arguably Cohen’s biggest and most beloved song, as well as one of the most covered songs in history. With that in mind, we’re offering up a mashup take to ring in the holiday season. Here’s a very special version of “Hallelujah” which we’ve also created a video for. You can check that out on Twitter, Instagram and our AllMusicPodcasts page on Facebook. Enjoy, and happy holidays from AllMusicPodcasts.
