We recently asked Joel McIver, author of The Complete History of Black Sabbath: What Evil Lurks if he had any favorite music books or anything he might recommend. Here's what Joel had to say; have a look...

I can recommend several. In the metal field, the recent memoirs of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Scott Ian, Rex Brown, Al Jourgensen and Dave Mustaine are essential.

In rock, Keith Richards’ autobiography Life is a milestone: it raised the bar for all of us. Mick Wall’s recent books about The Doors and AC/DC are a blast, but then so is everything Mick writes.

Other excellent autobiogs have come in recent years from Sammy Hagar, Rod Stewart, Steven Tyler, Slash, Duff McKagan and Morrissey – yes, I enjoyed that one despite his constant whining.

Lemmy’s book White Line Fever was great, but far too short. Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt is nonsensical but you still have to read it. Finally, there is the new memoir from Woody Woodmansey, the drummer from David Bowie's Spiders From Mars band.
And, I would obviously recommend the following books – because I wrote them!
