Brenda Perlin, author of "L.A. Punk Rocker"

We recently asked Brenda Perlin, author of a trilogy of punk rock memoirs (L.A. Punk Rocker, Punk Rocker, and L.A. Punk Shapshots) if she had any favorite music biographies, memoirs, or music books or if she had read anything recently that shey’d like to recommend. Here’s what Brenda had to say.

Under The Big Black Sun: A Personal History of L.A. Punk
by John Doe & Tom DeSavia (Da Capo Press 2016)

I loved Under The Big Black Sun. I think they all did a great job of taking you back to that time period. It brought up some things that I hadn’t thought about for many years. Their audio book is especially nice as all the stories are spoken by it’s author.

Not Dead & Not For Sale: A Memoir
by Scott Weiland

I also loved Scott Weiland’s Not Dead & Not for Sale: A Memoir because it didn’t feel like he had a ghost writer like many of them do. It felt honest, down to earth and vulnerable. I read that right after his death and it really pulled on my heartstrings. Brutal.
