Evocative and edgy, filled with the sights and sounds of a changing world and a transformative life, "Girl in a Band" is the fascinating chronicle of a remarkable journey and an extraordinary artist.

Excellent memoir. If you're looking for a complete history of Sonic Youth, this is not the book for you. It's Kim Gordon telling her story from the heart -- her trials and tribulations growing up and finding her way in the world. She spent 30 of those years as a member of Sonic Youth and 27 of those years married to fellow band member Thurston Moore. The breakdown of her marriage to Moore figures largely in a number of the chapters, but it's dealt with in a respectful manner.

I am the author of "Young Neil: The Sugar Mountain Years," a book on Neil Young's earliest years, available on Amazon.com here.
